The virtual machine tool (VMT) is a new technology going with the development of virtual manufacturing (VM), it's one of the key technologies of VM. It possesses enormous economic benefits and widest application outlook, so it's gradually becoming one research focus. This thesis presents a method about geometry modeling and kinematics simulation of VMT based on OpenGL geometry engine. In term of the method modeling and simulation of any kinds of NC machine tool can be constituted.The contents of VMT are enrichment. The basic parts of VMT are geometry modeling and kinematics simulation, these are the foundation for the full function simulation of VMT. In this thesis, at first every geometry model of VMT's component is designed by the principles of Object Oriented Programming (OOP), and then the VMT is constituted through CSG. Based on the geometry modeling the thesis dissertates the movement manner of the 5-axis machine tool, sets up the kinematics model and realizes kinematics simulation according as the time-divided interpolation arithmetic. Finally the thesis pointed out the implementation of realistic display technology and virtual roaming technology in VMT.The thesis made a useful attempt on modeling and simulation of VMT, and upbuilded a platform to train the NC machine tool operator.But in order to realize full function simulation of VMT there are still many hard task on which we must work.
