As the main interconnected structure of SoC, NoC has good parallelism andscalability. However, with more and more processors being integrated in one chip, planar metal connection manner limits the performace of NoC, causes highlatency and power consumption. So NoC can not adapt to future demand, newsolutions are needed. Due to the development of miniaturized on-chip antennas,intra-chip wireless communication can be achieved, which has high bandwith, low latency and energy dissipation. It can improve the system performancesignificantly, make WNoC be the alternate of NoC.The topology is the most important research content and the basic of WNoC. Itdecides the number and distribution of wirelss nodes and links, can directly affectthe network performance. To solve the problems of existing architectures, we propose hybrid WNoCbased on multi-hop wireless communication, design a related topology called2-Level Hybrid Mesh. In this architecture, a wired mesh is divided into severalsubnets, and a wireless mesh is added among these subnets for wirelesscommunication. In this foundation, a algorithm which combines adaptive anddeterministic routing strategies. In this algorithm, packets are classified androuted according to different strategies, thus the congestion level of the wirelessmesh can be downgraded. At last, virtual-channel router design is used to avoiddeadlock problem. To evaluate the performance of2-Level Hybrid Mesh architecture, asimulation platform of WNoC written by SystemC is introduced in this paper, and different traffic models are used. The experiment results showed that2-LevelHybrid Mesh has lower latency and higher throughput, compared with theexisting architectures. So it can reduce the level of network congestion, provingthe advantage of our proposed hybrid WNoC which is based on multi-hopwireless communication.
