In recent years, mobile Internet technology has developed rapidly. On the one hand, the mobile network bandwidth has increased, and especially the evolving of3G networks and LTE systems, offers the possibility to in-depth development of mobile Internet applications; On the other hand, with the performance enhancing and price falling of mobile terminals, mobile intelligent terminals phase into the lives of ordinary people and become the main equipments for people to obtain information. Therefore, there is much room for development of the mobile terminal-based applications service. Besides, location-based information service based on mobile terminal has become a hot field in mobile application development. Currently, location-based information services based on mobile terminal, mainly provide simple location information inquiry service through the web page, and the integration of information service with the users’ needs is not high. However, in real life, a variety of information services based on geographical location are required, such as the location information of bank, supermarket, station information, and so on near the user. Therefore, many limitations and shortcomings exist in current location information service. Android, as a new type of intelligent mobile operating system with strong ability in hardware and software extension, is a Linux-based open source operating system, and mainly used in portable devices. Location information services based on Android development owns huge potential.This thesis analyes the needs of users in ordinary life to location-based information service, and then it builds location information service system based on the Android platform. It firstly analyzes the system architecture and components of the Android platform, and then describes Android API and application composition, as well as the mechanisms of life cycle of the Intent. On this basis, a location information service system (LISS) is designed and developed based on the Android platform. The system includes self positioning, location search, navigation, nearby information query and update, history items search. Ultimately the location information service system is realized on the Android platform.
