With the development of economy and the advancement of urbanization, traffic congestion becomes the common problem of large and medium-sized cities in China. To ease traffic congestion, the government and relevant departments keeps up the push of the Bus Priority Policy; however, buses still present less market attractiveness. On the one hand, the reason is the low level of bus service. Bus passengers can not get their needed bus information easily. On the other hand, the reason is the competitiveness from other vehicles. With the diversification of travelers’travel mode, there is a need to constantly improve the bus information service to enhance the market competitiveness of buses. Moreover, passengers’ demand for bus information service is mobile and bus information acquisition will depend on mobile devices.In addition, the development of mobile Internet and the popularity of smart phone promt the combination between bus information service and mobile terminal, which will improve the service level and service quality of bus. Therefore, this thesis presented a bus information service system based on Android, designed to provide more convenient public transportation information service for bus passengers.This thesis firstly defined the bus information service system and analized the problems of bus information service in China at present, then proposed the urgent needs of perfecting bus information service and the necessity of developing mobile bus information service system. Secondly, with the principle of meeting the travel demand of residents, this thesis designed and implemented the mobile bus information service system based on Android with the integration of many advanced technologies (Android development technology, qr code, baidu LBS, Socket, database). The system was designed as a layered architecture to increase the logic reusability and expansibility of the system and to implement the information sharing among the Web management system, the server, and the Android client. Based on Yuxi bus information service, the system implemented some key functions——the Socket network communication, scanning and parsing of bus qr code, user localization, Baidu map, bus arrival predication query, bus route query, etc. Thus, passengers can easily get their own position and check out the bus information at anywhere and any time.The mobile bus information service system based on Android designed in this thesis is feasible in theory and technique. The system displayed a reasonable function structure, a friendly user interface and a simple operate mode. By employing the portability of smart phone, the convenience of qr code, the stability of the Socket communication and the intuitive of Baidu LBS. It will widen the channel of the bus information service to put the system into use in large and medium-sized cities. This can help to sharpen the intelligence and humanization of bus information service, and then improve the market competitiveness.
