| With the development of society and economy, English is becoming more and moreimportant in the international communication and people’s everyday life. It is a must to learnEnglish well. However, there are quantities of students with English Learning disability (ELD) inSenior High Schools, especially in the rural Senior High Schools. They not only affect thedevelopment of themselves but also restrict the development of national education, thushindering the aim of quality education from being reached. The problem of how to transformELD students has drawn the English teachers’ attention and becomes a focus of our research.Researchers at home and abroad have been doing research on ELD students since the1970s,analyzing the causes of learning disability and summarizing some transforming methods. Butsome of them are not systematic and do not conform to the new thoughts and ideas of the newcurriculum reform. Also there is little research of transformation about one subject and even lessabout English. So it is necessary to do further research on the transformation strategies of thestudents with learning disability in English. This thesis is based on the reality of our school. By referring to the related researches onELD students at home and abroad and the theories of educational psychology, I try to find outthe causes of ELD students by means of questionnaire and interviews. I briefly introduce theinternal and external causes and emphasize the effect of non-intellectual factors. Several mainproblems existing in the ELD students are lacking English learning motivation and interest, notmastering proper English learning strategies, not having enough learning perseverance and so on.Some transformation strategies were put forward in accordance with the problems’ solution, considering varieties of factors including school, family and society. This thesis is structured as follows: Introduction elaborates the background, purpose andsignificance of this thesis. Chapter One introduces the survey of ELD students at home andabroad and gives the definition of students with learning disabilities in English. Chapter Twoillustrates the theoretical basis of the research. Chapter Three is about the methods and process ofthe research, which finds out the causes of ELD students by analyzing the data and performsteaching experiments to test out some transformation strategies. Chapter Four puts forward theconcrete transformation strategies and provides suggestions to English teaching in Senior High School. Finally the conclusion is drawn and the limitations of this thesis and suggestions for thefuture research are also pointed out. |
