It has been one of hot issues to study how to build a democratic and equal relationship between teachers and students. However, the Body Language, as an important supplementary means in building such a good relationship, has seldom been researched so far. The Body Language, which accounts for a larger proportion in the communication between teachers and students except the verbal language, serves a vital function in how suitable, harmonious, and communicable teachers communicate with students. Therefore, in order to create a democratic and equal relationship with students, teachers should not only pay much attention to the significance of the Body Language, but also make it fully effective by focusing more on their own postures, facial expressions, eye contacts, gestures and so on, using the Body Language appropriately.Based on the pre-test of web survey and the previous research at home and abroad, the writer analyzes and integrates various materials from the relevant literature to conduct this study. By studying the actual teaching cases, the research in this paper focuses on the influence of teachers’ inappropriate Body Language, which includes the symbolic body language, illustrative body language, show body language, adjustive body language, and adaptive body language. By analyzing the function of different kinds of body language, this paper shows their impacts on students’ mental health, learning interest and interpersonal communication. Through explaining the three common features, including implicitness, hysteresis and continuity, of the influence of the body language on students, the writer analyzes the reasons why teachers use inappropriate body language during the communication with students. The conclusions can be reached that teachers’ inappropriate body language appear partly because of their deep-rooted traditional ideas, high pressure, low teaching ability and the psychological problems of their own, and also on account of improper school management, such as the negligence of teachers’body language, the lack of regulation and the single teacher evaluation system. In order to study the application of Body Language on the construction of democratic and equal relationship between teachers and students, this paper summarizes the connotation of equality and democracy. For the equality between teachers and students, it includes the concept of mutual participation and decision-making, the equality of life level, fair treatment of all students, and the relativity of equality. For the democracy, it can be divided into freedom and respect. At last, from the three categories including facial expressions, eye contacts, and gestures, the writer discusses the application of Body Language on the construction of democratic and equal relationship between teachers and students.
