Required modules of Ordinary High School Curriculum Standard ExperimentalTextbook: Biology, published by People’s Education Press, has many special columns,such as "problems and discussion","association with life","thinking and exploration","data analysis","science&technology&society", as well as large amounts ofillustrations. These special columns are reflections of new curriculum reform ideas,and load the idea of new curriculum reform. Analysis of its service condition inpractical teaching can reflect new curriculum reform idea implementation in practicalteaching, in the meanwhile, it can reflect the weakness of current textbooks andprovide references for new textbook writing.This paper analyzed the features of these special columns and investigatedteachers attitude and realization toward these special columns in practical reachingand subjective and objective difficulties in using these special columns. This paperconfirmed that limit class hour, supporting resources, and lack of using strategies andcases are difficulties during teachers using these special columns. Then, this paperpointed out that "data analysis" column should be added in textbook, and contents like"patulous knowledge of related teaching knowledge","application of knowledge inproduction practice" should also be added.In order to make better use of these special columns for biology teachers, thewriter provided advices on textbook improvement and supporting resourcesconstruction, and presented his application strategies with case studies, which aresituational teaching strategy, case-based teaching strategy, and comprehensiveapplication strategy, hoping that this can throw out a minnow to catch a whale andpromote teachers’ application of these special columns to some extent.
