The characteristics of geography are comprehensiveness and territoriality. The best way to study the regional characteristics of geographical entities is comparing geographical entities. It will clarify geographical spatial differences and connections between things through comparison, and then reveal the geographic space motion and space change rule. This paper introduces the origin and development of comparison first, as well as the importance of comparison method in the high school geography teaching. Second, based on the theory of comparison and the characteristics of high school geography, this paper puts forward the classification of comparison, the idea of comparison and comparison principles, according to these, this paper also constructs three kinds teaching models of comparison. Last, presents experimental study to demonstrate the validity of comparison in the high school geography teaching. It founds that comparative teaching mode can improve the students’ ability of comparison and learning ability. But in the experiment, students have been found these problems like "can’t compare totally","can’t compare comprehensively" and "can’t compare thoroughly" and other issues, it requires teachers pay attention to improve students’ consciousness of comparison in teaching, help students to build the knowledge structure, and cultivate their thinking ability. Only then teachers can make the comparison method to give full play, and improve the classroom efficiency, get twofold results with half the effort.
