As the protagonist of the architecture,the space is the start point and the destination forhuman being’s building activities.The space is not only the enclosure of a construction orentity,but also reflects a kind of life mode.The existence of space not only satisfies thepeople’s food,clothing,shelter and transportation,but also accommodates various emotions andpsychological feelings,which include pleasure,anger,sorrow and joy and so on. The spacecarries the the development history of the building and witnesses the human developmenthistory on politics,economic and culture.China has thousands of years of continuous history and culture,and it has formed its ownunique characteristics and contained rich cultural connotation. In the long process ofdevelopment,the traditional dwellings have not only been cteated an unique buildingstructure system from generation to generation,but also formed an architectural culture systemcontaining China culture, family history,living habits, folk customs and regionalchatacteristics.What’s more, an unique regional space language has been designed.Residence is the smallest unit of Chinese architecture, but it is the origin of all thearchitectural design, especially,the method of space design and the rational combinationorder have laid a solid foundation for all building designs. In this paper, the residential space,especially the traditional dwellings space is the research object.We hope to explore theessence of the dwelling space design and to provide reference for the future.Mou’s Manor,as the research object in this paper, is a typical representative of the feudallandlord class residential buildings in north China. Geographically it is affected by QILUculture and JIAODONG culture, in theory by Confucianism and other Chinese traditionalculture. Based on the composition of Chinese traditional space including theory elements,function elements, psycholog elements and technique elements,this paper analies Mou’sManor from the whole space, the emotion space and the suitable space. We hope through the analysis we can guide traditional dwelling space protection, development and utilization.In addition,,it is of practical significance for us to explor how to design architecture with thenative characteristic.
