| With the rapid development of China, there is a great increase in communication between China and other countries around the world, covering political, economic, cultural, environmental and other fields. In particular, interpreters at press conferences often find themselves faced with highly demanding tasks, considering the great cultural gap between China and other countries. According to Danica Seleskovitch, the famous French translation theorist, interpretation is the process of conveying the speaker’s real meaning in speech irrespective of the linguistic forms. This Interpretive Theory holds that there are three steps in interpreting practice, namely, comprehension, de-verbalization and re-expression. PCI, as a special kind of interpretation, has the unique characteristic of instantaneousness. The Interpretive Theory actually best illustrates the objective of PCI. The theory not only provides dynamic criteria for general interpretation, but also functions as the important guiding principle for PCI.
