The press conference of the CPPCC is an important link in the Two Sessions held annually, and also an essential window for the world to learn about China. Given the importance of the CPPCC press conference, improving the interpretation quality at the conference is a problem worth exploring in the translation studies. Under the framework of the interpretive theory, interpretation strategies previously summed up, i.e. free translation, addition and restructuring, have practical implications. This article intends to use these strategies under the interpretive theory to guide interpretation at the CPPCC press conference. By analyzing the interpretation data at the press conference of the 3rd Session of the 12th CPPCC National Committee, the writer proposes the specific ways of application and cautions concerning the strategies of free translation, addition and restructuring to improve the press conference interpretation. When the speaker's literal meaning is not consistent with his communicative meaning, the interpreter could apply the strategy of free translation to correctly deliver the speaker's meaning by deverbalizing the language. The interpreter sometimes could also add certain information based on the cognitive background of the foreign audience. When the speaker's information becomes too fragmented, the interpreter could facilitate the efficiency of information delivery by restructuring the speaker's sentences under the premise of not altering the original meaning.
