Research On Modernization Of The Traditional Opera Stage

With the development of modern consciousness, drama plays a more and more important role in the opera performance. The most commonly used form of traditional Chinese opera’s stage, a table and two chairs, has been broken. Contemporary drama has made full use of lighting, computer technology and modern science and technology to realize affluent stages and has produced a strong visual impact. Freehand brushwork in traditional opera is the foundation of drama’s development. Objectively, it must be based on the respect for traditional opera’s ideographic function so as to do a more diverse and wide explore. Traditional stage has its specific value which is associated with internal aesthetic of opera culture. During the development of drama’s modernization, it has occurred many disadvantages and extreme phenomenons undeniablely. But there are also many excellent works.This paper mainly discusses the difference among traditional freehand, symbolic drama and modern dramahe taking Huangmei Opera as an example from the point of traditional performance and function of drama. It puts forward the ncessity of drama’s modernization in the background of modernization of the audience’s aesthetic consciousness opera and the popularity of director centralism and thinks about the pros and cons occurred in this development. Finally puts forward the view, the modernization development of drama must seek innovation in the return of the traditional drama. This paper contains many examples which analyses the classic Huangmei Opera, such as "grass playing pig","buckwheat notes", as well as the modern Huangmei Opera "Huizhou woman","Peacock Flying Southeast" and others in detail when proposes the features of traditional and modern drama.The paper consists of three chapters. The first chapter is the understanding of stage of Huangmei Opera, opera and drama briefly which analyses their concepts and development courses. It defines the scope of the stages discussed in this paper. So the audiences can have a certain understanding of Huangmei Opera and drama’s stage.The second chapter demonstrates the evolution of the drama’s strage. Through the study of "grass playing pig"," buckwheat " and other series of works, it analyses the traditional Huangmei opera’s stage which reveals the characteristics of the traditional realistic drama and traditional opera stage. During the study, it chooses the famous modern Huangmei Opera "Huizhou woman" as the analysing object which shows the features of modern Huangmei Opera stage. The third chapter thinks about the modernization of drama’s stage, from the necessity of modernization, advantages and disadvantages of this process. It indicates the modernization of the drama should be established on the basis of traditional aesthetic standards.
