Huangmei opera, formerly huangmei melody or tea-picking opera, is amajor kind of opera in Anhui Province, which together with Beijing opera,Shaoxing Opera, Pingju opera and Henan Opera are five operas in China.Huangmei opera, performed in Anqing dialect, which language is livelyand emotional and melody sounds beautiful and smooth, flexible andcolorful, has distinctive local characteristics and shows great artisticappeal.Early huangmei opera was not appeal to refined taste, but now it hasdeveloped into the art form loved by the masses. Therefore, mass livingis affected by its rich flavor of life and fresh rurality. As a uniqueopera tune, it is ingenious without losing its identity. It uses a lotof dialects and liner words to show life tinge. Absorbing the essence fromfolk songs, this paves the way for lively and merry mood. It makes bestuse of proverbs and allegorical sayings, does also have couplets andriddles to adds spices. And it takes advantage of many rhetorical devicesto pursuit refined and popular taste. It shows folk customs and nationalconditions in the pattern of poetry, in order to express sufferings andhappiness of the crowd. Featureless but cordial, it is just the languagearts of huangmei opera.This paper focuses on revealing the mutual relation betweenlinguistics and traditional operas from the view of them.
