A Study On Zhang Taiyan’s Cultural Nationalism Thought

In culture history of modern China, Zhang Taiyan is a giant can not be bypassed.In his culture thought, the color of cultural nationalism is obvious, and it embody inevery his texts. Jian Lun is a book like this. This thesis selects six papers from this book,and focusing on three culture thought including Rite, Constructing country based onZhongXing, and Equality, to narrating the details of his cultural nationalism thought.How Zhang Taiyan’s cultural nationalism thought took shape? Generally, itincluding common reason and special reason. As the common reason, it lies on the YiXia Zhi Bian in the conventional thought activated by westernizing in east. For ZhangTaiyan, there are some special reasons too. Firstly, it is benefited by his progress inphilosophy. In1906,he expressed his theory named Ju Fen Jin Hua Lun, it lay afoundation on the social theory for his cultural nationalism thought. Secondly, ZhangTaiyan was born in ZheJiang where culture is booming, his feeling of historic missionon culture inheriting is regionally urgent. It distinctly performed on Zhang organizedXing Zhe Hui and wrote the preface for it. Again, his personality acted as Wei Jin FengDu has the intrinsic privity with the forming of his cultural nationalism thought. At last,Zhang Taiyan’s cultural nationalism thought was shaping by the historic circumstancesin modern China. It again proved a Chinese proverb as Shi Shi Zao Ying Xiong.In Zhang Taiyan’s opinion, rite has something to do with both Governing Conceptand Ordinary Problem. His cultural nationalism thought embodies in concept of rite,especially in his finding on the original meaning of rite and discriminating the effects ofrite, what’s more, he pushed a new progress for this conventional culture. In thediscussion on concept of Constructing country based on ZhongXin. His culturalnationalism thought get a deeper progress. He established this concept by reviewing thehistory of Zhong Xing, and it is different from western theory of national country. Whathe has done undoubtedly provide the best evidence for his cultural nationalism. InShang Ping, Zhang Taiyan expressed his conservative attitude on San Gang, which isobviously contradiction to the modern Equality theory and exactly is the performance ofconservative. On another hand, this thesis try to lead reader to begin a thought trip, bywhich we can get a understanding in detail situation on Zhang Taiyan’s conservativeattitude. What’s more, it shows the necessity to study cultural nationalism in modernChina with sympathy.At last, Zhang Taiyan’s thought of cultural nationalism lead us to two discussions.first, I think in Zhang Taiyan’s opinion the Chinese culture inherition is more importantthan the activity on politic practice, which is proved by his cultural nationalism thought.Second. Zhang Taiyan’s concept of culture based on cultural nationalism serves as alink between past and future in culture interpreting, which gets more and more modern meaning in Chinese modern thought.
