This thesis is a translation project report on a cultural text. The selected parts for translation are the latter part of The Folk Customs of Mongolian People, which means the translation contents are from lesson four of chapter four to chapter eight of the text. The text introduces art, competitions, festivals, worships and other aspects of Mongolian people. It is easy, interesting and a good way to maintain and spread Mongolian culture. Prior to this, the text has not been translated into English to be published, and that is why it is chosen as translation text. This time it is Chinese to English translation with a total of10.017English characters. During translation, under the guidance of functional equivalence theory, the translator tries to translate the text faithfully and meet the expression habits of target language combined with certain translation methods and strategies. The practical report describes the whole process of translation, discusses the translation methods and strategies of long-sentence and proper names and selects some examples to make an analysis. At last, the report summarizes the limitations of the translation and the gains from the translating. Through the translating practice, the translator concludes that when translating cultural text like this, not only sound language ability and skillful translating techniques are deeded, but the comprehension and mastery of culture matters more.
