The three ancient Chinese colloquial fictions:Yu Shi Ming Yan, Jing Shi Tong Yan and Xing Shi Heng Yan, collectively refer to San Yan. This is an extremely important linguistic material of the Neoteric Chinese study. Relatively compared to the literature study, the language study of San Yan is not as abundant. Additionally, especially the Lexical researches are incomplete.The lexical researches of San Yan are significant factor of the study of Chinese language history. The language in San Yan is colloquial and lucid, which contains abundant vernacular terms, dialects and colloquialisms. It would be quite valuable for enriching the research results to collect and study those dialectal and colloquial words. And the inspections on vocabulary of San Yan would allow not only to improve the study of Neoteric Chinese lexicon, but also to perfect the development of Chinese lexicon. Besides, the minor mistakes in entries, interpretations and examples in some dictionaries may be detected that would be helpful to supplement and revision of the dictionaries.The paper chose the appellation terms in San Yan as research objects and tried to make a comprehensive investigation of them. In the study ofthe relative appellations in San Yan, the paper made exhaustive count and analysis with statistics, and showed the data in tables. Besides, with the combination of synchronic study and historic comparison, the characteristics of relative appellations in Neoteric Chinese were analysed though the comparison with relative appellations in Primitive Chinese, Middle Ancient Chinese and Modern Chinese. In the study of the social appellations in San Yan, the social appellations were collected and classified. The paper chose some valuable social appellations to investigate though exegetical methods and pointed out some mistakes in some dictionaries and existed researches. Moreover, the paper discerned some fine distinctions in both lexical meanings and forms to investigate the extension of appellations. The researches not only provided reference materials for the researches of Modern Chinese, but also enriched the study ofNeoteric Chinese.
