Objective: To investigate the influence of using of the traditional chineses medicine after the operation of glaucoma.Search for the direct evidence of effect in using traditional chinese medicine to increase retinal microcirculation. Search for the traditional chineses medicine which can effectively increase retinal microcirculation. Methods: The scanning laser Doppler retinal flow meter (Heidelberg Engineering, Heidelberg, Germany) was used to measure retinal microcirculation blood flow of 32 eyes of 20 patients of glaucoma before the operation and after the operation, which composed by 14 eyes of 10 patients of trabeculectomy or laser of iris(control group) and 18 eyes 10 patients using the traditional chineses medicine after the operation The three parameters of the microcirculation blood flow in the four areas, which are superior temporal retina of the optic papilla, inferior temporal retina of the optic papilla, superior nasal retina of the optic papilla, inferior nasal retina of the optic papilla, were recorded respectively. Results: The independent samples t tests showed that the differences(two groups, before the operation and after the operation) were highly statistically significant for the degrade of tension of eyeball (P<0.01); The three parameters of the microcirculation blood flow of retina (volume, flow, and velocity) stepped up, were highly statistically significant when compared with the parameter of before operations(P<0.01); After matching t-test, there were highly statistical significance of differences for the flow in nasal retina of the optic papilla, (P<0.05), the other parameters were no statistically significant between two groups (P>0.05).Conclusions: The three parameters of the microcirculation blood flow of retina (volume, flow, and velocity) step up highly after the operation. The using of traditional chineses medicine after the operation of glaucoma can not show better effect in increasing the microcirculation of retina, when compared with control groupe.
