Objective: To study the change feature of retinal microcirculation blood flow of the patients with diabetic retinopathy after Chinese medicines and laser treatment. To study change feature of retinal microcirculation blood flow of the patients with diabetic retinopathy before Chinese medicines treatment and before laser treatment. Methods: The scanning laser Doppler retinal flow meter (Heidelberg Engineering, Heidelberg, Germany) was used to measure retinal microcirculation blood flow of the patients with diabetic retinopathy, Chinese medicines groups: including the patients with background diabetic retinopathy which needed treat with Chinese medicines, total 10 cases (20eyes). Laser groups: including the patients withⅢ、Ⅳperiod diabetic retinopathy which needed treat with laser, total 16 cases(26 eyes). The three parameters of the microcirculation blood flow in the five areas, which are the macula, nasal retina of the macula, temporal retina of the macula, superior retina of the macula, inferior retina of the macula, were recorded respectively before therapy of tow groups, one month after Chinese medicines treatment and instant of a month of laser treatment. Results: The independent samples t tests showed that Chinese medicines groups: Volume was increased, velocity quickened after Chinese medicine treatment, which showed significant difference (P<0.05), flow quickened markedly after therapy, which showed high significant difference as compared with those before treatment (P<0.01) in the macula and in superior retina of the macula. As compared with those before treatment in inferior retina of the macula, volume was increased after therapy, but showed no significant difference (P>0.05), flow and velocity quickened, which showed significant difference (P<0.05). As compared with those before treatment in nasal and temporal retina of the macula, Volume was increased, velocity quickened, but showed no significant difference (P>0.05), flow quickened which showed significant difference (P<0.05). There was no statistical significance of differences for the sight (P>0.05). Laser groups: As compared with those before laser treatment in the macula, Volume was increased remarkably, velocity and flow quickened markedly, which showed high significant difference (P<0.01). As compared with those before laser treatment in superior retina of the macula, Volume was increased, which showed significant difference (P<0.05), flow and velocity quickened markedly after therapy, which showed high significant difference (P<0.01). As compared with those before laser treatment in inferior retina of the macula, volume was increased and velocity quickened, which showed significant difference (P<0.05), flow quickened markedly which showed high significant difference (P<0.01). As compared with those before laser treatment in nasal retina of the macula, Volume was increased, but showed no significant difference (P>0.05), flow quickened, which showed significant difference (P<0.05), velocity quickened markedly, which showed high significant difference. As compared with those before laser treatment in temporal retina of the macula, Volume was increased, flow and velocity quickened after therapy, but showed no significant difference (P>0.05). There was no statistical significance of differences for the sight (P>0.05). There were highly statistical significance of differences for volume (P<0.01), flow (P<0.01) and velocity (P<0.01) before Chinese medicines and before laser therapy. Conclusions: Laser and Chinese medicines therapy can improve retinal microcirculation, the relativity between the development of diabetic retinopathy and the alteration of retinal microcirculation was proved. But there were no statistical significance of differences for the sight.
