0bjective: To investigate the correlation of serum S100B prote-in and its clinical significance patients with schizophrenia. Methods: The serum S100B protein levels in83schizophre-nia patients and42healthy volunteers (normal controls) were me-asured by Enzyme-linked immunoassay(ELSIA); We used the PANS-S to assesse psychopathological symptoms of schizophrenia patients, and analyed the relationship of the S100B concentrations andthe PANSS scores in schizophrenia groups.Result: There were no significant differences between the p-atients (2.O4±0.79ug/L) and normal controls (1.53±0.89ug/L) aboutthe serum S100B levels(P>0.05); There were no statistical signifi-cant difference between acute schizophrenia patients(2.31±0.96ug/L)、chronic schizophrenia patients(1.76±0.41ug/L) and normal contr-ols (1.53±0.89ug/L) about the serum S100B levels(P>0.05); Therewere no significant differences between male(2.06±0.79ug/L) patientsand famale patients (2.02±0.80ug/L)(P>0.05); The serum SI00B le-vels did not correlate with the onest of age(r=-0.22,P=0.15),age(r=-0.23,P=0.13),ill duration(r=-0.19,P=0.18), negative score(r=-0.18,P=0.25),postive score(r=-0.02,P=0.92),general psychopathol -ogy score(r=-0.24,P=0.12)or total score (r=-0.24,P=0.11)of PAN-SS in schizophrenia patients.Conclusions:1. There were no significant differences betweenschizophrenia patients and normal controls.2. The serum S100Bprotein levels should not be regarded a-bsolutely as a indicatorthat reflect the severity and prognosis of schizophrenia.
