Effect Of Spiritual Care For Spouses Of Cervical Cancer Patients On Stress, Quality Of Life And Social Support

ObjectiveThis paper is an attempt to demonstrate the current situation of cervical canerpatients’ spouses and explore the effects that spiritual care intervention may have onthem in terms of their stress pressure, quality of life and social support.Methods80subjects recruited in the study are from spouses of cervical patients who havebeen cured in one affiliated hospital ranging from2012January to2012September.The participants are sampled randomly and then divided into two groups, theExperimental group and Control group. There are40subjects in each group. TheControl group are treated with conventional care, while the experimental group aregiven the spiritual care nursing and conventional care during their companying. Basedon Stress Scale (RSS) and Quality of Life Scale (QOL), two groups would beanalyzed the difference before and after the study regarding their pressure stress,social support, and quality of life in order to evaluate the effects of spiritual careintervention.Results(1) Statistically speaking, before the intervention, there was no significant differencebetween two groups as the experimental group and the control groups were (20.55±5.87)and (20.95±5.97), respectively, in terms of their psychological stress score. After theintervention that the experimental group received, the scores of experimental groupwere significantly lower than those of the control group based on the statistics (P <0.05).(2) Before the intervention, the subjective support score of the experimental group andthe control group were (19.90±2.17)and(20.70±2.59), respectively while theobjective support scores were (11.65±1.53) and (11.30±2.20). Besides, the utilization ofsupport scores were:(6.55±1.70)and (6.65±1.34), which indicates that there wasno significant difference between the two sets of data (P>0.05). after the interventionof the spiritual care, it has been showed that scores of subjective support of theexperimental and control groups scores turned to be(21.58±2.23)and(21.10±2.38)while the objective support scores were(14.55±1.79)and(11.85±2.30). meanwhile,the utilization of support scores were (8.26±1.10)and(7.00±1.25). Based on the setsof data, it is save to jump into the conclusion that the experimental group scoredsignificantly higher than that of the control group, and the difference was statisticallysignificant (P <0.05).(3) Before the intervention, the scores of experimental and control group were:[(20.50±4.71),(19.90±3.82),(43.30±7.97),(43.20±7.77),(9.05±3.30),(9.55±2.91),(15.00±3.82)],[(15.30±3.21),(43.80±8.00),(43.05±7.62),(14.65±3.63),(15.30±3.61),(13.10±1.97),(12.75±2.02] in terms of the quality of life Scale healthy, life satisfaction,psychological coping, anxiety, life disturbing and mental disorders, which shows nostatistically significant difference (P>0.05). After the intervention, scores of theexperiental and control group were:(27.2±4.07),(20.1±5.12),(64.1±4.27),(43.5±7.94),(13.60±3.12),(10.20±3.12),(11.20±1.93),(14.40±2.64),(32.25±4.85),(42.50±7.47),(21.65±2.85),(15.6±3.18),(7.00±1.65),(12.35±2.00).Statistically, Two sets of data showssignificant gap between the two groups(P <0.05).(4) It has been suggested from the data that there is a correlation with psychologicalstress, social support and quality of life (P <0.05).Conclusions(1) The spiritual care may relieve the pressure of cervical cancer patients.(2) The spiritual care may help cervical cancer patients obtain more social support.(3) The spiritual care may promote cervical cancer patients’ spouses regarding their quality of life.
