Objective: To understand the clinical nurses’ sleep quality and related factors inUrumqi. Methods: In2012March a total of550clinical nurses were investigated asobject by cluster stratified random sampling in three third-grade hospitals in Urumqi.505nurses were surveyed by the general situation and Pittsburgh sleep quality index scale(PSQI) and Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS) and Self-rating Depression Scale(SDS)、andSimplified Coping Style Questionnaire (SCSQ) to analysis status of sleep quality of nursesand related factors. Results:(1)The mean score of PSQI was (8.08±3.23).The incidenceof sleep disorder was54.7%about276clinical nurses.(2) The difference of different ages,marriage, job title, educational background and work experience of the clinical nurse PSQItotal score was not statistically significant. But the difference of different ethnic groupsand departments of the clinical nurse PSQI scores was statistically significant.Multivariate Logistic regression results suggest that different ethnic groups, departmentsaffect the sleep quality of nurses.(3) The difference of different career prospects, workintensity, mood at work, job satisfaction, and the night shift frequency, night shift feeling,night differential impact on sleep, as well as the satisfaction of the duty room conditionsclinical nurse PSQI score difference was statistically significant.(4) On the character traits,whether there was a family history of sleep disorders and whether physical exercise threeaspects, clinical nurse PSQI score was not statistically significant, but in the night shiftfrequency and personal income satisfaction, the difference was statistically significant.(5)Anxiety score, depression score and PSQI total score and factor scores of the clinicalnurses were positively correlated.(6) PSQI total score and daytime function score wasnegatively correlated with active coping styles. Negative coping style score with a totalscore of PSQI, sleep quality, sleep time, sleep disorders, sleep medication and daytimefunction factor scores were positively correlated. Conclusion: Clinical nurses’ sleep quality was poor in the third-grade hospitals in Urumqi. It should be taken positivemeasures to improve the quality sleep of nurses. Ethnic groups, department, workcognitive night shift frequency, personal income factors affected nurses sleep qualityobviously. Anxiety, depression and coping style of clinical nurses were correlated to sleepquality. The hospital management should pay attention to the clinical nurse sleep problems,giving more care to the ethnic minority nurses. And high-risk department nurses werescheduled to rotate regularly. It was necessary to raise wages and benefits. Clinical nursesshould adopt a variety of positive coping styles to overcome setbacks and maintain a goodattitude and avoid depression and anxiety.
