GMDSS global maritime distress and safety system is the major communications system in the "1979International Convention on maritime search and rescue". At present most of the tertiary institutions are using GMDSS simulator for training. With the latest modification of the STCW Convention, the usage of the simulators is highly required and also the simulator itself is also getting better and better. However, until now, there is no real assessment system based on the GMDSS simulators which is suitable for training in our country. Currently, most of the institutions are still using the traditional manual assessment system which has many disadvantages. For example, the assessment will be strongly affected by the subjective perceptions, the organization of assessment cost a lot of time and effort, the assessment process is difficult to be reserved, etc. Thus, given the drawbacks as well as current assessment status, it is predictable that paperless and automated assessment system will be the inevitable trend in the future. This article is the study of automated assessment system which is based on the self developed GMDSS V-2Simulator. The paper firstly introduced the study background and the development status of the GMDSS assessment system in the world. The evaluation criteria analysis based on the "GMDSS examination syllabus and assessment standards" has been done to identify evaluation indicators. And then the evaluation will be separated into four categories, use four different methods to establish evaluation model with examples and explanations. Model focuses on selected interfaces, locations, matching nodes, steps. According to the evaluation indicators, the finally subordinate function will be established. Each equipment evaluation items will be classified according to importance and modeling method. By using the analytic hierarchy process, the weighted values for each category can be derived. Meanwhile compute the assessment scores and the weighted average of the scores for each device to obtain a final score. Lastly, the automated assessment system is realized with the VC++2010object-oriented programming language and the C/S framework. This section focuses on the functionalities of subsystem assessment system and establishment of the database and verifies the feasibility by examples.
