In recent years, the wave of globalization has been rising at an amazing rate, in the meantime, succeeding traditional architectural expression and upholding regional architecture characteristics are increasingly drawn public attention. This thesis is intended to enhance the current situation of Chinese residential buildings, which are chaotic and anonymous. Thus, residential buildings in Jinzhong area are selected in order to be used as examples to promote work in entire area. To start with, residential history in this area is reviewed and the connotation of folk houses in this area is analyzed and summarized. After that, research results of newly built houses in the same area are shared and summarized in this paper. After compared the current situation and ancient dwellings, as a result principles of succession and development of residential architectural expression are reached.In addition, overseas and domestic related research status is included in this thesis. Moreover, the experiences of the UK and Japan are taken as examples to analyze. To be specific, their former cultural faults and solutions are narrated and summarized for us to draw on. Then, our misunderstanding and exploration on this task are rethought profoundly.In the end, suggestions based on the views of times, regionalism, humanity, which is taken as the focal point of the paper, is proposed respectively. What is more, these suggestions are proven by two exemplifications, namely, two new communities:Taiyuan Xinghewan and twelve courtyards city.
