The Research For Symbolic Culture Of Suzhou Private Garden’s Gardening Elements

In recent years, with the "globalization" of the economy, knowledge of "integration" and two trends of thoughts, which are extreme "free" and too "conservative", people began to heading to "international standards" blindness. We are facing with the problem which is reflecting to the cultural ideology comprehensive. With the progressing of era, people also improve the aesthetic of the landscape. Single beauty of form cannot meet the needs of the people’s spiritual and cultural level. Lacking deep meaning of landscape works and the nondescript of symbolic design, which has been became the existing problems of China’s current landscape. We really need to making the culture and civilization return to its own sense.Chinese symbol culture is the topic both ancient and modern. People always find many things which hide certain cultural symbolic meaning. Symbolic culture contains unique spiritual values of the Chinese nation, cultural awareness, and ways of thinking. As the physical carrier of China symbolic culture, Suzhou private garden is the ancient symbol of culture, the cash-life character and philosophy of art. Meanwhile, the outstanding symbolic culture is carrying forward and continuing to innovate by the development of the garden.After the on-site researching of Zhuozheng Garden, Wangshi Garden, Shizi Garden, Liu Garden, Tuisi Garden, and so many Suzhou private gardens, this paper selects Suzhou private garden’s garden elements as the main object of the study. First of all, the concept of symbolic culture and background of Suzhou private gardens are discussed from the point of development, influencing factors, manifestations, and ideological and theoretical. Secondly, on the basis of the literature review and field research, this paper use the method of combining theoretical analysis and examples, making symbolic culture of Suzhou private garden’s garden elements classified into figurative symbols, abstract symbols, literary allusions, auspicious combination of four categories and subdivided into eleven specific contents, and then combined with research examples of symbolic culture to analysis. Thirdly, this paper making vector analysis of symbolic culture combined with Suzhou private garden’s gardening elements. Finally, sum up the symbol of culture in the modern landscape design principles, and look forward to the accumulation of a Suzhou private garden, a symbol of cultural heritage and innovation in the modern garden.This paper use theoretical analysis and practical research and other means, standing symbolic cultural perspective to analyze the Suzhou private garden’s gardening elements, making great significance of classical gardens’ spiritual and cultural wealth and modern landscapes’ symbolic design.
