Research On The Stylized Factors Of Jiangnan Private Garden

Stylization is a common phenomenon in all kinds of Chinese traditional culturalpatterns，its existence can be found from the literature, painting, calligraphy, drama andother forms of culture and art.This stylized phenomenon also lies in the Chineseclassical gardens,which embodied by using the same or similar elements andtechniques in creating of differnt gardens. Its even are regarded as performativeformula in garden construction.Regarding to Chinese classical gardens, the most typical representatives areprivate gardens in South China, where Suzhou traditional gardens win the preeminentposition among the existing private garden. In this thesis, Suzhou garden serve as thesampling object, in which11gardens’ field research were conducted, and the stylizedfactors of gardening were extracted and analyzed unifying the related literature. Wefound that these patterns include not only macro layout level but also specificconstruction level. These phenomena appear in the garden under investigationrecurringly. And it is these stylized phenomenon permeating everywhere provides theJiangnan private garden overall artistic style forming of a particular landscape artsystem. The first task in this thesis is to induce and sum up these stylized phenomenonfrom various landscape elements and landscape gardening.Stylization is a kind of phenomenon, penetrating the phenomena gets the essence,behind each program has a background and the mechanism of its formation. Theformation of landscape stylized phenomenon is the result Chinese classical gardengradually accumulated in the long process of development. This is a process thatChinese traditional philosophy and culture,other forms of art and literature penetrateand influence each other, verify and complement each other,as well as affected and restrict by various natural factors. The interior of Chinese traditional culture is a highlyorganic system, the philosophical thoughts top the system penetrating into all fields ofsocial life, forming cultural concept directing behavior, finally materialized forvarious kinds of material and spiritual culture form. Embodied in the garden art, isforming all kinds of gardening programs bearing different cultural connotation.Another task of this thesis is probing and analysing the cultural background and theformed mechanism behind these stylized phenomenon.Through the analysis, this paper proves effectively that stylized phenomenonswere found abundantly in Jiangnan private garden. After dissecting all specificphenomenons programs, the thesis uncover the mechanism behind the formation,which includes not only natural factors but also cultural factors. After particularstudying, the mechanism was put into a larger cultural background,consequently,wewill have a more profound understanding on the reason why Jiangnan private gardenscame into being the styles and features what we see nowadays.
