The Elements And Characteristics Of Landscape Gardening In Traditional Private Garden Houses In Shanxi Province

Shanxi’s traditional private gardens contain rich cultural heritage and unique artistic values.They are an indispensable part of Chinese classical gardens.Since ancient times,Shanxi has been a “table and river”.Under the influence of its unique customs and natural features,private gardens in Shanxi have distinguished themselves from other private gardens and have considerable regional cultural characteristics.The study of the elements and characteristics of the gardening of traditional private gardens in Shanxi Province is of great significance for supplementing the classical Chinese landscape gardening theory and the inheritance and innovation of traditional private gardens in Shanxi.This study uses research methods that combine relevant literature and field research to conduct research.On the basis of studying and arranging the literature,field research on the existing gardens of traditional private gardens in Shanxi was conducted.The five classic examples with the highest artistic value and the most complete preservation are selected for in-depth research.They include the Qiao Family Courtyard in Qixian County,the Chang Manor in Yuci County,the Wang Family Courtyard in Lingshi,the Li Family Courtyard in Wanrong County,and the Kong Xiangxi house in Taigu County.Through the analysis of its history of development and related culture,the overall layout of the five classical examples and the characteristics of rocks,water bodies,plants,and architecture were discussed in detail.The full text concludes with the following conclusions:1.Shanxi’s traditional private houses and their gardens are full of rich cultural connotations.The concrete manifestation is based on the following three aspects: Fengshui Culture,House Building,the theme of sublimation through traditional culture,and the integration of foreign cultural elements.2.Traditional private houses in Shanxi are mainly symmetry houses and supplemented by natural gardens.The gardens have their natural beauty.The houses are mutually independent and accessible to each other.3.The mountains and rocks in Shanxi’s traditional private house gardens are characterized by "heavy and simple",the water body has the feature of "collecting more and dividing less",the plant has the feature of "sparseness",and the building has the characteristics of "practical and gorgeous".
