The author selected the International Friendship Cities of China as the research object, and generalized the historical origins,the development process and the research about International Friendship Cities in the world, also summarized the regular pattern about the evolution of International Friendship Cities and influent factors that affected the establishment of International Friendship Cities of China And then the author combined with the development law of international friendship cities in the world to discuss the spatial distribution and temporal evolution of International Friendship Cities in China, within the geographical scope of China and world. And thus, the author analyzed the influencing factors that affected the establishment of China International Friendship Cities. The research contained the evolution of International Friendship Cities in China and the evolution of International Friendship Cities that established friendly relations with Chinese cities.Currently, International Friendship Cities of domestic scholars was relatively small. The qualitative research that contained more theoretical analysis and policy recommendations as the main research content was relatively large. In quantitative studies, the researches mainly focused on the association between the International Friendship Cities and economic development. Currently, the studies of International Friendship Cities that were on geography perspective was still deficiency. The sister city relationship that established from1973to2012was the subject of the study, the author cleared the research unit, and explored the distribution of Chinese cities and foreign cities that had established the sister city relationship in each spatial unit, and come to the following conclusions:First, the cities had established friendly in China between were mainly distributed dense in eastern coastal regions, and all cities had set up sister city relationship in some provinces. View of the dense in the eastern part of China, showing that new sister cities were concentrated in the northern China in the stage from1973to1992. And sister cities extended to southward in the stage from1993to2011. The distribution spaces were the northeastern cluster distributed and the southeast-point distributed overall.Second, the Chinese cities that had established friendly relations in1973to2011as object of study, the author selected six indicators those were the size of the urban population indicators, the total economy, city administrative levels, urban location, modern historical factors, cultural heritage, to carry on Logistic regression analysis,the result showed that, historical and cultural factors had a significant impact on the establishment of the China International Friendship Cities relationship from1973to1992. Economic factors were the main factors affecting the China International Friendship Cities relationship from1993to2011. Third, from the time that the friendly relations set up, the first friendly relations were between the cities of China and Japan. The sister city relations between China with Europe and the United States after1980gradually increased. With the development of the China International Friendship Cities, China’s foreign sister cities continue to accumulate in the number increased. From the view of the distribution of foreign cities those had established sister relationships with Chinese cities in the world geographical scope, The highest distribution was in Asia, and Europe was the most widely distributed, and Africa was less distribution. Individual countries such as Japan, USA and Korea were prominent in the distribution. Qualitative point of view, its spatial distribution were affected by Geopolitical factors, cultural factors, historical factors for war, political factors, economic factors and many other factors.
