Harbin located in the northern part of northeast China, is one of the largest andmost prosperous international metropolis Northeast, the national political, economic, cultural and transportation center. It is the capital of Heilongjiang province, with theurban area of7092square kilometers and population of587.9million..In recent years, the extremely rapid development and economic growth in Harbinbrought a lot of convenience to people’s lives. But with natural factors and the gradualincrease in economic activity of human engineering and, the geological environmentgot tremendous influence and pressure, resulting in many problems and a variety ofgeological disasters in the city, seriously affecting urban life and property safety. From August9,2012to August29th only20days, nine consecutive ground collapsesoccurred in Harbin, killing two people and two seriously injured, two cars collapseinto the pit. The great harm became a serious threat to the safety of life and propertyto urban residents and seriously affected the good image of the city, impeding socialand economic development of the city. Therefore, in order to effectively control the development of geological disasters, making the maximum reduction of the negative impact on the socio-economicdevelopment caused by geological disasters and reducing economic losses, the studyon the basis of the past combined with Harbin geology, hydrogeology, engineeringgeology, investigates the existing types of geological disasters in Harbin City area, itscauses, characteristics and distribution during the development and carries out apreliminary analysis. According to the actual situation in Harbin, the author alsopresents some countermeasures. This work has important significance for improvingthe level of geological disaster prevention in the region, the protection of people andproperty safety of urban life and the promotion of sustainable development of thelocal economy for the future, and having important reference value to the futuredetailed investigation of geological disasters in Harbin city and surroundinggeological disaster prevention, geological environment studies, groundwaterresource evaluation, underground space exploration,3D geological modelconstruction work. The main types of geological disasters in the plain areas where the main city ofhaerbin lies on is ground subsidences, while avalanches, unstable slopes, soil erosion, river bank collapse and other geological disasters mainly in the Acheng city. Most of the land subsidences were caused by the excessive exploitation of groundwater. In2007, land subsidence area was52.9square kilometers and the largest increase insurface deformation and subsidence volume was0.6centimeters, stable in general;ground subsidence is mainly effected by underground facilities, pipeline damage, etc.Various types of1031hidden risks have been found, including28hidden points withgreater threat risks, currently having been given effective governance; there are othermajor geological disasters, including74collapses,240unstable slopes,42soilerosions,80riverbank collapses, a total of51.7acres of farmland destroyed,4380trees,,1350meters semi-ruined roads,21half-destroyed houses, causing directeconomic losses of3.6755million yuan.
