The Modern Physicist And Educator:Chang Shou Zhou

Q.ing government appointed students study abroad firstly in1896, which ceases from appointing of the War of Resistance against Japan broke out until1937, there were no less than50thousands Chinese students studying in Japan in this period. It was an unprecedented study abroad movement. Chinese modern science educational development was deeply affected by this huge intellectual army. They also had a huge affection on the history of Chinese physics. Changshou Zhou as a representative of Chinese students studying in Japan in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China from1906to1919, had a great contribution in physics education of China, China-Japan academic communication, science community and popularization and so on.In1919,Changshou Zhou came back to his homeland, and his heart was filled with "science save the nation","education save the nation". He contributed to physics community and development in China by translating and editing middle school physic textbook, popularizing science book, and publishing quantum theory and the theory of relativity actively. By referring to the Chinese era’s books, newspapers and journals in National Library and Beijing Normal University library, conduct a study in Changshou Zhou’s life using document analysis method by a perspective of the history of physics. This paper will introduce Changshou Zhou mainly following four aspects:(1)Lifetime presentation. This paper introduces Changshou Zhou’s life experience by referring to original documents like local chronicles, periodicals of the Republic of China era, in several aspects:studying experience, service in the commercial press, marriage, teaching in Great China University, patriotism and so on.(2)Changshou Zhou and his middle school physics education. Via analyzing the character of middle schcol physics textbook edited by Changshou Zhou, exploring the reason why his editing physics textbook had a great vogue in the Republic of China era even have an influence in early years of the new nation. In addition, Changshou Zhou participated in curriculum standard setting and physics noun examination’s education conference repeatedly. He had a contribution in the setting of the Republic of China era physics curriculum standard too.(3)Changshou Zhou and the China Research Group. Changshou Zhou as one of the initiators of the China Research Group and Science Society of China which were known as the two most big science organization. He made outstanding contributions to the development of the China Research Group. To demonstrate his tremendous contribution to establish and development process by means of look up Xueyi, ZhonghuaXueyi Papers and other pertinent literatures, objectively and specifically.(4)Changshou Zhou and the popularization of modern science. To summary the pattern of Changshou Zhou positive spread quantum theory and the theory of relativity by translation articles, books,carry out lectures everywhere, by referring to books, newspapers and journals of the Republic of China era; He also wrote popular science readings, enlightened the people, promoted the publics’scientific literacy; He made an important contribution to the popularizing and development of physics in China.Through the study of Changshou Zhou’s life:His whole life with due diligence. He was pious editor, translator, writing all kinds of physics textbook and having an important contribution in basic education in the Republic of China era and lay a solid foundation of the grown up of Chinese third generation physicist; He gave advice and suggestions to the China Research Group dutifully and made "research truth thriving, academic exchanged knowledge" as his own duty. He still took part in public popularization of science career, made big contributions in spreading and development of physics especially in the quantum theory, the theory of relativity in china.
