Biande Pei Science Research

Bian Depei is a famous writer on popularization of astronomy in China. He wrote over80monographs (including those coauthored books). Over1000articles written by him were published, which made him one of the most productive writers in the field of popularization of astronomy in China. He was awarded a certification of Science Writer with Outstanding Achievements since the People’s Republic of China Was Founded, especially since the Association of Science Writers Was Founded. The International Asteroid Center named No.6742asteroid as Biandepei. He also won the Prize of French Flammarion in2000. Bian Depei made excellent achievements in the field of the popularization of astronomy. This paper aims at sorting out and summarizing his work on the popularization of astronomy, and also researching and analyzing his writing on the science popularization.This paper includes five chapters:The first chapter is the foreword, introducing the theoretical and practical significance, research status and research methods.The second chapter introduces how Bian Depei stepped onto astronomy popularization from his adolescent period. This part also summarizes Bian Depei’s working on science popularization and the significant achievements during his entire life.The third chapter analyzes in-details Bian Depei’s articles on the astronomy popularization. In this chapter, his articles are studied and analyzed after sorting-out and categorization. All his articles are categorized into the following parts:the works typifying Bian Depei’s writing; the professional introduction of astronomy; the professional introduction of astronomy with explanations; the essays about astronomical phenomena and constellation; the science articles for publics; and the articles published in the magazine of Amateur Astronomer.The fourth chapter analyzes in-details Bian Depei’s monographs of astronomy popularization, including the categories, contents, language style and features. This summary was made after the study and analysis on Bian Depei’s monographs.The fifth chapter is the epilogue. Bian Depei’s thought of science popularization was refined and regarded as the epilogue, on the basis of the study and analysis on his works.
