Railway is a primary mean for the rapid circulation of commodity goods,as well as the effective transportation of passengers from one place to another,and plays an important role in the development of national economy. Afterlarge earthquakes, the railway system is easily to be damaged. As a typicallifeline engineering, once the railway system is destroyed, besides the hugeeconomic loss caused by the repair or reconstruction of railway system itself,a lot of additional troubles to the emergency relief and subsequent recovery orreconstruction work will be followed, and which will make the disaster worse.After the earthquake, grasping the situation of the disaster quickly andevaluating the loss of the railway system effectively can provide reliable basisfor the repair or reconstruction. However, Wenchuan earthquake in2008shows that the seismic damage loss assessment technology of railway systemin China after the major earthquakes is far from satisfying the actual demandand there are many shortcomings. In order to improve the technical level ofseismic loss evaluation of railway system, a new method is developed basedon the seismic damage data and literature monographs in this dissertation.In this dissertation, the main content is as follows:1. The selected topic’s background and significance of this paper areintroduced, as well as the present development situation of earthquake disasterloss evaluation. At last the research ideas of this paper are given.2. The main component of railway system is introduced as well as itsstructural type and classification, which determines the evaluation object. Theclassification and statistics of earthquake damage to each appraisal object isfinished, and the seismic damage mechanism of all kinds of structures isdiscussed at the same time.3. The existing standards and regulations attaching to earthquake damagegrade division are collected and summarized. According to the structuralcharacteristic of each evaluation object and the characteristic of theearthquake damage, a complete set of earthquake damage grade division areproposed that is specifically used to the railway system in this chapter.4. The current research status of loss ratio at home and abroad isintroduced as well as the common loss ratio determined methods. Accordingto the seismic damage grade division proposed standard of each evaluationobject and structural feature, the optimal method is chosen to determine thevalue range of loss ratio. At last, the proposed value range of loss ratio iscompared with the national standard.5. The seismic damage survey methods and survey content of railwaysystem are described in detail, and the corresponding survey forms aredesigned. Eventually, both the calculation steps and the calculation formulas for seismic damage loss assessment of railway system are given, and thewhole process of seismic damage loss assessment for railway system isestablished.
