Design And Implementation Of Urban Online Service Platform Based On RIA

WebGIS is a web-based geographic information system which is a technique forcombining GIS and Web.Because of it,the application fields of GIS become more andmore popular.As the traditional WebGIS based on the HTML page,there is defects suchas poor user interface, poor interactive capability and slow response time,which can notmeet growing needs of users. Rich Internet Application is the next generation of Webapplications, with good performance and interactivity,brought a new chance for thedevelopment of WebGIS.Silverlight is a very promising RIA plug-in launched byMicrosoft,cross platform and browser, has a rich user experience and powerfulfunction.Web service with REST-style is gaining more and more attention because of itssimple and efficient,and numerous geographic information services companies areoffering Geospatial services based on REST-style. Based on the above technology,thepaper which with Silverlight and ArcGIS Server as a platform, describe the technicalroute of ArcGIS Server based on Silverlight in detail.As the specific application,in thepaper,Ningbo City online service platform is developed based on WebGIS.The platformusing ArcGIS Server9.3as the GIS server to publishing services and these services areconsumed by REST API in the Silverlight client side. In this platform, many functionscan be completed, such as map measuring, locating and feature finding, map zoomingand exploring，contrasting in the multiple windows. The platform improves WebGIS inthe expressiveness and interactivity, at the same time, reduces the difficulty ofdevelopment and shortens the cycle of product, with certain theoretical and realisticsignificance. According to the actual application, WebGIS based on Silverlight has abeautiful user interface. The WebGIS system based on Silverlight has greater advantagethan traditional WebGIS system based on HTML for example graphic display,multimedia intergration, animation effects, reaction speed and so on. Moreover, thisdeveloping style uses lightly REST style makes the development process easily andefficiently.Thus, this developing stytle has very good prospects.
