Sustained and healthy development of oil companies, not only affect the developmentprocess of the national economy, national security and social stability, but also to some extentdetermine the country’s comprehensive national strength and international status level. Withmiddle managers in the oil business management activities increasingly important role, theability to work of middle managers directly affects the performance of oil companies. Withthe specific analysis of oil companies middle managers competency model, we can find thatmiddle managers should have the ability, quality and personality traits, to help improve jobcompetency of middle managers. Middle managers provide guidance to oil companiesselecting, cultivating outstanding middle managers, and play an effective role in theorganization and management, so that oil companies can achieve more efficient development.This paper uses combining of qualitative and quantitative research method, based on theresearch of the competency model home and abroad, clearing the corporate middle managersrole, through literature analysis to obtain competent power factor, combined with thebehavioral event interview complementary amendment, we get29competency elements.With the survey to oil companies middle managers, exploratory factor analysis, reliability andvalidity testing and other methods to determine the model’s dimensions and weights, oilcompanies eventually come to middle managers competency model. Established competencymodel of middle managers in oil company includes six categories, namely: leadership traits,personality traits, internal driving force, work attitude, personal skills, values awareness.Daqing Oilfield Drilling Engineering Company for drilling four companies of middlemanagers overall competency level of the actual evaluation, indicating that the unit ofcompetency primarily in middle management leadership traits, values, knowledge has beenlacking. Competency model based on oil companies raised middle managers training anddevelopment, recruitment and selection, performance evaluation and other aspects of thespecific application methods to achieve middle managers oil companies and raise the level ofcompetence.
