| The theme of the current research is on “The Competency Model of GroupLeadersâ€. This modelis aimedto provide a standard forevaluating the capability of groupleaders, and it can be used to guide the training and evaluation ofgroup leaders. We collected the data by usingBehavior Event Interview (BEI). Referencing thecoding protocol, we coded the text from the interview materials and analysized the mostcritical coding words and built the competency model for group leaders in China withthis data. Validity and reliability of this model are reported.Fourteen Chinese group leaders were interviewed, out of which thirteenwerevalid.Five of these people belonged to the “excellent groupâ€, and the othereightbelonged to the “average groupâ€. Two were male and eleven were female. Theaverage age was40.64[Age range was from26to58]. There was no statisticallysignificant differences between the excellent group and the average group in terms ofthe length of the interview and the coding frequencies. We established the primary competency model of group leaders, which consistedofbenchmark competency characters and distinctive competency characters. Thereliability of the model (category agreement)was between57.0%~72.1%.In addition, we analyzed the coding results of behavioral interviews and theirsubjective capability cognition. There are differences between the competencies theyshow and the competencies they thought to be the most important, between the newgroup leaders and the experience ones, and between the male group leaders and thefemale group leader. Reasons as to why these differences exist are discussed. |
