Research On Influencing Factors Of Grain Peasant Households’ Demand For Agricultural Technology In Jiangsu Province

"Science and technology are primary productive forces", agricultural science and technology innovation is the key factor that promotes sustainable development of agriculture. However, the contribution rate of agricultural science and technology in China’s agricultural growth has only reached45%currently, far below the level of developed countries(60%～80%). The reason is not because of the lack of agricultural technology, but because of the lack of valid agricultural technology that suitable for peasant households’ demand. China’s current agricultural technology extension mode is carried out top-down through administrative means, rarely take into account the real demand of peasant households. However, peasant households are the final recipients and adopter of agricultural technology, whether the agricultural technology spreading and diffusing in agricultural technology extension can be identical with the demand of peasant households is the key to the^success of agricultural technology extension. Therefore, to know the technology demand of peasant households has very important significance to the valid supply of agricultural technology.Agriculture is the foundation of the national economy, while food is the foundation of agriculture. The food problem occupies an extremely important strategic position in China’s national economic development and social development. Jiangsu is China’s major grain-producing province, and occupies an extremely important position in China’s grain production system. From the angle of peasant households, the paper chooses the grain peasant households in Jiangsu province as the research object. On the basis of survey, the author uses the descriptive statistics analysis method to analyze the situation of peasant households’demand for agricultural technology, and then the Multinomial Logistic Regression Model is adopted to analyze factors influencing the agricultural technology demand of peasant households. At last, according to related conclusions, the author proposes some suggestions, so as to supply some related information and policy support to government, scientific research institutes and enterprises.The findings of descriptive research on grain peasant households’demand for agricultural technology in Jiangsu province indicate that, grain peasant households in Jiangsu province have urgent demand for agricultural technology currently; pest control techniques, improved varieties and cultivation techniques and fertilization techniques are the three main types of agricultural technology that grain peasant households in Jiangsu province demand most; peasant households with different characteristics have various of demand for agricultural technology.The results of empirical research on influencing factors of grain peasant households’ demand for agricultural technology in Jiangsu province indicate that, the proportion of farm labor force, household income, income proportion of grain, neighbors and friends, agricultural production material sales department, agricultural technology extension personnel and agricultural professional associations have significant effects on grain peasant households’demand for agricultural technology in Jiangsu province. Among all of the influencing factors, the proportion of farm labor force, income proportion of grain, neighbors and friends, agricultural production material sales department, agricultural technology extension personnel and agricultural professional associations have significantly positive effects on peasant households’demand for agricultural technology; household income has significantly negative effect on peasant households’demand for agricultural technology. In addition, there’re obvious differences between different areas of Jiangsu, peasant households in northern Jiangsu have higher agricultural technology demand than peasant households in southern Jiangsu.
