With the continuous progress of science and technology, as well as the development of economic globalization, knowledge gradually takes the place of land, capital and labor such tangible production factors in economic development for its unique feature, it becomes the most important and most valuable strategic resource. And how to manage knowledge effectively to facilitate the firm to cope with the fierce competition is current focus of research. Knowledge management system as one of the IT tools which can manage knowledge effectively, more and more firms pay close attention to it and implement it. But the traditional management system almost developed from file management system, the knowledge and the business process is apart, which can’t meet the firm’s demands. So this paper study and design the knowledge management system based on workflow, which tried to integrate the knowledge management into the business process.This paper first explored the relationship between the knowledge management and business process based on the introduction of the concept of knowledge management and business process, and it came to a conclusion that knowledge management must combine with business process. Then analyzed the entry point of knowledge management in the workflow management system, and described how the business process-based knowledge management system works. In order to make the knowledge management could be effectively carried out and knowledge management system implement smoothly, it introduced the idea of business process reengineering to guide the construction of knowledge management system. After completing the framework of the knowledge management system, it designed the kernel module of the knowledge management system, which included knowledge storage design, knowledge usage design(knowledge pulling design, knowledge pushing design and knowledge protection design), problem solving process, audit process of knowledge submitting. In the end, it made a case study which according to the author’s project experience:the architecture of the system, technical solutions, database design, implementation of key KMS’functions and a certain process instance.
