The technology of field bus is one of the hotspots in the automatic control field. CAN bus has been acknowledged as one of the most promising field bus which is a fully digital, multi master and asynchronous serials communication network. CAN bus has higher performance in reliability, flexibility and real-time characters etc. It’s widely used in many fields, such as industry automation, medical treatment, aeronautic, marine and vehicle industry. On the other hand, with the fleeting progress of computer technology, computer plays an increasingly important role in those above fields, In order to realize the communication between the computer and the CAN bus device, the computer is necessary to have a CAN bus interface. However, a computer does not afford this kind of interface in general, Therefore, a PCI-CAN bus convert system which realizes convert between PCI bus, which is one of the most widely used bus interface in a computer nowadays, and CAN bus is developed in this thesis. In this thesis, three large sections are given respectively:introduction, the system hardware design and function test of the system.In the introduction section, the research background is given, then the development history and trends CAN bus and PCI bus are briefly described.In the system hardware design section, the total framework of the system, FPGA design method and flow are briefly given first, then the develop procedures of the three sub-modules inside of the FPGA are given in details respectively:PCI bus interface sub-module, CAN bus interface sub-modules and the control sub-module.Function test of the system is used to verify whether the develop method of the card is correct or not. In the test scheme, a CAN bus development board named MSG-TOP808is selected to be a slave node. The development board interlinks with the computer through CAN bus. The test software includes PCI-CAN convert system’s initialized subroutine, receive subroutine and transfer subroutine, as well as the main procedure. The test results show that the PCI-CAN bus convert system can realize correct communication with the slave node and reaches the prospective targets.
