The IP-ization and broadband-ization of services provided by the operators’ businesses China as well as the IP-ization of data-bearing network, the rapid growth of the3G data services traffic, and the fierce competition between the operators put forward higher request on the bandwidth, reliability and recovery ability of the transmission network. The separation state of the IP layer and WDM layer cannot achieve good coordination of resources, which greatly reduces business transfer efficiency after the expansion, so the IP over WDM mechanism of traditional backbone network has been unable to meet the increasing requirements of enlarging communication capability. Capability expansion means enlarge the network scale, which not only increases the cost of network construction, at the same time also will put forward to the reliability problems of the network design.First of all, in this thesis, the each layer of protection and network mode in IP over WDM system deeply analyzed. In the IP layer and WDM layer of the backbone network, different protect scheme is adopted to realize the networking configurations. However, in the common configurations, the IP layer and the WDM layer are usually separated, so the optical layer can only provide static configuration information of the physical link resources for the IP layer and can’t know the IP layer dynamic service requirements, IP layer also cannot obtain the topological structure and protection ability of optical layer. Moreover, the protection fault of a single WDM network can cause routing oscillation These issues not only reduce the processing efficiency of the network service transfer but also make the reliability design of network difficulty.Secondly, IP over OTN joint networking model is proposed to solve these problems for IP over WDM network.based on the optimization of IP layer and OTN layer transship services, the improvement of the protection routing planning and the coordination recovery mechanism of the IP layer and optical layer, the option of the interface between the IP layer and optical layer. In this networking model, the negotiation mechanism between OTN and IP layer is introduced with real time optimization based on dual-layer collaboration of the IP layer and OTN, which can effectively collocate the network resources, enlarge the network capacity, and loose the capacity enlargement pressure. Since the negotiation mechanism of the OTN and IP layer is introduced to the network management layer, the multilayer fault position and diagnosis, uniform alarm processing, derivative alarm shielding can be achieved, ans so the fault can be eliminated quickly and the maintain pressure is reduced. These ensure the reliability and QoS of the network, and achieve complex and OPEX optimization of the whole network.Finally, based on the existing OTN equipment, some testing work for IP over OTN joint network scheme is done to check the practical feasibility, the main works include IP over OTN joint testing the feasibility of networking and protection of the equipe from single manufacturer, and from two manufacturers, In every test, some different fault point is setup, and when the fault happens, the protection capability of the network is measured according to the switching time and recovery time of the network services. The measured data show that s, all the service switching time is less than50milliseconds at the different fault conditions, which meets the required time of protocol, and the experimental results shows that IP over OTN joint network is feasible in practical applications.
