Sensing domain, networking domain and application domain are three main domains of the Internet of Things (IoT). The sensing domain, which is the antenna and nerve endings of IoT, mainly composed of heterogeneous sensors, and it is responsible for perceiving and gathering the data of "Things" for the entire IoT. Currently the unified norms and standards are still not officially formed, and the traditional sensors’ interface and data format are diverse, which are not conducive for IoT’s data sharing and are barriers for the development of application domain. In order to set up a good foundation for IoT data sharing in the very beginning of the data collecting, this paper designed a smart gateway model in the sensing domain of the IoT, and proposed a universal adaptive adaptation mechanism, which provides a solution for the heterogeneous sensor resources to access the IoT system and a method of data abstraction to form a unified data format. At the same time, the paper has done some research on the IoT data resource sharing platform in the networking domain to satisfy the need of data sharing in the IoT, and especially design and implement the open service API, which provides the IoT resource in a way of API for the application domain, and will make application developer focus more on their services and functions.After studying the present situation, research progress and future trends of the IoT, the paper studies and implements a smart gateway model in the sensing domain of the IoT and the functions and architectures of open service API. In the first place, the paper studies and designs the adaption, access and management functions for different kinds of sensors, and comes up with a detailed schema of analyzing, abstracting and storing for the heterogeneous data. After that, the paper designs and implements a universal open service interface on the data resource open platform by a REST style of Web services, and then gives a typical IoT application scenario, which verifies the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed program. Finally, the paper summaries and discusses the outcomes and shortcomings, and looks ahead for the future of practical significance of this study.
