In recent years, in order to satisfy lot of wireless services, growing data requirement, and wider bandwidth,3GPP have to give up CDMA and make the OFDM based technologies OFDMA and SC-FDMA the radio access technology of LTE. LTE gets many operators’ attention cause its characteristics of simple, high efficiency, anti-fading, and so on. Though LTE has such advantages, the sharp increase of mobile users will lead to increase of base stations and network complexity, make operators’operation, management, maintenance inconvenient. Other hand, green wireless communication, energy saving of communication systems have been concerned by operators and equipment manufacturers as people’s consensus about environmental protection and sustainable development.To overcome the challenges from more network configurations, more complex structures, and more energy consumption,3GPP proposed self-configuration and self-optimization in LTE, and strengthen the research on SON in LTE-A. Many use cases have been proposed, especially for the communication system energy consumption, have proposed Energy Saving. Through these new techs, base stations achieve self-configuration and self-optimization. Therefore, the cost can be cut down and the green wireless communication can be realized.From the research of SON, the use cases such as mobile robustness optimization, mobile load balancing, and energy saving are proposed. For Energy Saving there are several typical scenarios, and basic suggestions for each. But the energy saving cells and compensation cells’chosen algorithms still have improve space. Generally, there are two kinds of algorithms, pre-configured by OAM or auto-configured by cells’. The first cannot adapt to the real time variation of system load, and the second make system out of control to Energy Saving procedure. For the problems in such algorithms, this paper through full study of basic theory, from the points of selecting compensation cells and configuring energy saving and compensation cells’ groups for scenario of monolayer coverage, finally proposed a UE measurement and throughput prediction based compensation cells selection scheme and a greedy algorithm based energy saving and compensation cells’ group configuration scheme. These schemes make stations adjust the configurations adaptively with actual load distribution. In addition to this, a system-level simulation has been made. And the results show that the solutions not only decrease energy consumption but also increase energy efficiency compare to not use it.
