With the rapid economic development in China, the energy crisis has been a urgent problem to solve. Power shortage has been a prominent contradiction of restricting the economic development. Therefore, the problem of street lighting energy saving has become an important research topic increasingly.The intelligent street lamp energy saving control system studied in this paper is a PLC-based intelligent energy saving system aimed at the huge energy consumption in city lighting of China. The lamp control device is an integer with the function of voltage stabling control, reactive power compensation, protection and intelligent voltage control.The main feature of this device is the combination of autotransformer voltage control and PLC control. The power of street lamp is from low-voltage side of autotransformer, the high-voltage side tap is associated with the control system. When the transformer need to adjust the voltage, changing the position of tap can change the transformer voltage ratio, thereby can change the transformer's output voltage, in order to achieve the effect of changing the lamp voltage. The combination of reactive power compensation capacitor switching and PLC control is another feature of the control device, which can improve network utilization and thus save energy.The intelligent street lamp energy saving control system is analyzed in this paper. It discussed the conceptive scheme of the control system, introduced the system design, operation principle, and calculated the structural characteristics of autotransformer. The software is designed aimed at street light voltage control, capacitor switching control and protection control. At last, the testing method is presented from engineering point.Intelligent street lamp energy saving control system can improve the power efficiency significantly and power factor. Now, the energy saving and rational power use are very important, so the device has a very broad social and business prospect.
