Research On Heuristic Evaluation Based On User Testing

Heuristic evaluation is an economical means of assessment which is commonly used in usability testing. This approach is originated from the web interface evaluation. With the development of internet and smart phone, heuristic evaluation of mobile phone’s interface have been researched as a popular topic. Since the original assessment criteria of web Interface evaluation cannot cover new cell phone’s characteristic of interaction. The paper is committed to propose a new method of heuristic evaluation which is suitable for mobile interface, and establish a profile of assessment criteria.In this paper, to increase accuracy of assessment, establishing a new kind of heuristic evaluation based on user testing, focusing on the problems from user operations.The paper is divided into two parts to fulfill these goals, during the first part, user tests are mainly used to propose the usability evaluation model and scheme. To test mobile social applications, pre-questionnaires, Task Analysis, thinking aloud and user interviews are carried out in order. By performance analysis, the usability evaluation model which includes six clear usability factors of Mobile devices:physical property problem, framework, Cognition, personalized customization, privacy and context. And the usability evaluation scheme which includes four clear usability factors of design interface, information architecture, content organization and functional classification are set up. The results are essential to heuristic evaluationDuring the second phase, we apply the results from first part to propose11assessment criterias of heuristic evaluation based on the usability evaluation model. Combining4usability evaluation models, seting up a new heuristic evaluation model based on design interface, information architecture, content organization and functional classification. At last, to assess the accuracy of the assessment criteria, carried out comparison experiments; it proves that this assessment is much more suitable for assessment of cellphone’s interaction. The paper uses mobile phone as research target, propose a new set of Heuristic evaluation scheme, and set up a new model for heuristic evaluation. This increases accuracy greatly by combining quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis together, and by combining research and user testing.
