With the popularization of electronic information products, the software products usersgradually into the general public, so the usability of the Commercial Off-The-Self (COTS)software product is more and more attention by people. And there are quality requirementsof usability in the testing standard of commercial off-the-shelf software product "GB/T25000.51-2010/ISO/IEC25051:2006", but aren’t evaluation method. In practice there aremany inconvenience, it can not guarantee the assessment result’s reproducibility, impartiality, objectivity, and traceability. In this article,we research on the method of usability evaluation of CommercialOff-The-Self (COTS) software product from the point of view of the third party. The First we introduce the different quality model and the definition for the usability ofsoftware, review the advantages and disadvantages of the methods of usability evaluation,Put forward by heuristic evaluation method to test the usability external quality of the COTSsoftware product. The second, we analyze the usability request through the human cognitive psychology,Microsoft enterprise standards and the software product test standard, put forward theCOTS software product evaluation usability heuristic principles, and the deficiency thatthere are quality requirements, not usability of the measuring methods in the test standardGB/T25000.51-2010is compensated. We analyze and modify open source the project-Testlink system, allowing it to increase software product quality metrics evaluation function. Finally We prove that the evaluation methods can be ensure that the results of detectionreproducibility, impartiality, objectivity, and traceability by participate in CNAS ProficiencyTesting. And activities to use Testlink system to assist in the evaluation to verify the effectof the new features.
