| Usability is an important attribute to an IT system and products. It is applied to evaluate whether the products or the system is easy to use, effective and efficient. At present, there exist various usability problems in the online education platform. It seems necessary to introduce the methods and techniques of usability to the evaluation of online education platforms. It is of great theoretical and practical significance to improve the online education platform from the viewpoint of learners.There are many usability evaluation methods of which Heuristic evaluation and usability testing are two commonly used methods. Heuristic evaluation refers to a method that aims at detecting the potential usability problems according to usability principles and experience. Usability testing is a method which invites real users to perform the real tasks using the products. It involves the tester who evaluates the interface of the website through observing, recording and analyzing the users' behavior and some related data. In fact, these two methods are often used together. This research evaluates the online education platform of S university using these two methods, and offers some suggestions for its modification.This research focuses on the specificity of the online education platform in the process of usability evaluation, especially on how to take account of the characteristics of how the learners learn on the website in the task analysis of usability testing. |
