Zhang Hu is one of the famous poets during Mid-Tang to Late Tang Dynasty. His poetryboth has the magnificent grand, and the fresh and natural characteristic of the Southern Dynastyfolk songs. What’s more, as a result of his unique style in poetry, he became an independentfaction at the age of Mid-tang to Late Tang. In recent years, researches on him and his worksZhang Hu poetry are more and more penetrating. However, due to various reasons, they are notvery sufficient. In other words, there are some other places that need to be further explored anddiscussed. This paper which is based on philology aims at exploring Zhang Hu and his poetry asfollows: the life of Zhang Hu and some controversial issues on his poetry, edition andemendation of Zhang Hu poetry, analysis about the features and content of his poetry as well asits historical value.Although Zhang Hu is a famous poet during Mid-Tang to Late Tang, the record about hislife experience is not very detailed. Visited recluse Zhang’s Dan Yang House(written by TangDynasty poet Yan Xuan) and The genius of Tang Dynasty(written by Yuan Dynasty poet XinWenfang) only give us a general knowledge of Zhang Hu. This chapter restudies Zhang Humainly from three aspects: the lineage origin, place of birth and his biographical.This chapter includes the descriptions of Zhang Hu’s works and the circulation of differenteditions of Zhang Hu poetry, such as New Tang Dynasty History, The Shugutang Bibliography,The Suichutang Bibliography·Other Class, History of the Song Dynasty History, JunzhaiReading, Zhizhaishulu Problem Solving, Quan Tang Poetry, Wen Yuan Ying Hua. BibliographyThe tenth volume of the Song Shu Document-Zhang Chengji is the existing earliest edition. In1983, Yan Shoucheng finished Zhang Hu Poetry based on the Song Shu Document and ZhangChengji Anthology. Yin Zhanhua published Zhang Hu poems emendation based on Zhang HuAnthology, which is by far the most detailed materials about Zhang Hu. According to the aboveversions from predecessors, the author did simple organization and did more though researchmainly based on the Zhang Hu poems collation, which was written by Yin Zhanhua.Yin Zhanhua made the most important contribution to the researches on Zhang Hu. Hegave clear judgments on different content about Zhang Hu poetry. However, some controversial content need to be further discussed, so the author will make her own judgment in the followingpart.Zhang Hu’s poetry has rich content, a wide range of topics and artistic features. Thereforethey should be paid more attention. This paper mainly discussed in the following aspects:Thefirst one is the content of poetry. The second part is the effect of the three thought: Taoism,Buddhism, and Confucianism on Zhang Hu’s creation. The third part tells us that Zhang Hu wasgreatly influenced by many famous Tang Dynasty poets.The author will divide Zhang Hu’spoetry into five categories: the palace poetry, the landscape and temples poetry, the leisure andacrimony poetry, the entertainment poetry and the poetry that reflected the people’s livelihood.The author will make a specific analysis and evaluation on each one. The third part contains: Theeffect of Taoism and Buddhism on Zhang Hu’s poetry, the effect of Confucianism on Zhang Hu’spoetry, the effect of Li Bai on Zhang Hu, the The effect of Han Yu on Zhang Hu, the The effectof Du Fu on Zhang Hu, the The effect of Jia Dao on Zhang Hu and the The effect of Bai Juyi onZhang Hu.Poetry can reflect the real life of a poet and his life background. From the following twoaspects, the author introduces the value of Zhang Hu poetry: to discover the social data of TangDynasty (including economic life, customs, etc.); to discover historical materials such as thedivision of the country,food famine,the Tang Dynasty bureaucracy and political events.
