In recent years, with the rise of "The Capable Deserve the Job (Zhi Lai ZhiWang)" and "Just for You (Fei Ni Mo Shu)", workplace reality TV show quicklybecomes a program type drawing widely attention. As an important subclass of realityTV shows, workplace reality show is representative and typical in many fundamentalproblems such as morphological characteristics, future challenges and developmentdirection. Therefore, the detailed analysis and demonstration research on theworkplace reality show in China can not only find out itself sustainable developingways, but also give some common suggestions and important references for manykinds of TV shows.Although receives high ratings, the workplace reality show still has a series ofproblems, such as speak power unbalance, the phenomenon of abused entertainment,too much story-telling, homogeneity, the insufficiency of development powers. Due tothe lack of systematic and detailed research on the workplace in reality show, theseproblems have not been solved yet, and have seriously blocked the furtherdevelopment of itself. In this article, we summarize the important issues that need tobe solved by analyzing the history and the morphological characteristics of theworkplace reality show in China in detail; then we find out the directions and realityreferences for the programs’ developing by using the comparing studies with similarforeign programs and sociology and communication studies; finally we suggest ascheme of "program value extended--mode expansion", which gives a preliminaryanswer for the core question--how to develop the workplace reality show in asustainable way.First, this thesis uses the hierarchy of needs theory in the study of behavioralscience, consumer society and consumer culture theory of the culture study to analyzethe history of the workplace reality show. According this research, we identify five factors to promote the development of workplace reality show: social consumptionculture demand, cultural and entertainment demand, program ontology demand,media market demand and audience consumption psychology demand. And based onthese, this thesis reveals the intrinsic motivation for the sustainable development ofworkplace reality show.Secondly, this thesis analyzes the morphological characteristics of the workplacereality show in three aspects----concept, form and content, using the theory of TVprogram form and of television creative research. Then it concludes that workplacereality show has three major characteristics: the concept of service, the form of"combination show" and the universality of content. Based on this, sums up the mostimportant problems to be solved in the workplace reality show are: speak powerunbalances, the phenomenon of abused entertainment, too much story-telling,homogeneity, the insufficiency of development powers.By comparing with foreign workplace reality shows, this thesis points out that theworkplace reality show in China should draw lesson from foreign programs in theconcepts of creation, forms of program and narrative methods, meanwhile weakeningthose competition and gambling contents, in order to form a new kind of workplacereality show that conforms with Chinese traditional culture and the audiencepsychological identity. This advice also provides a practical reference for manysimilar programs in our country.Further, this thesis also uses communicative action theory, carnival theory andinnovation diffusion theory to analyze the existing problems of the current workplacereality show in China. So the following countermeasures are put forward:"reconstruction of communicative rationality, make the television public sphere","hold entertainment standard,build the right carnival atmosphere","dig connotation,construction real carnival field "," Rational use the superior resources, Right choicefor innovation". These provide the theoretical foundations of the sustainabledevelopment of the reality TV show.Finally, according to the pattern "program value extension--mode expansion",this thesis puts forward the sustainable developing way of workplace reality show is: integrating the program resources to introduce series programs in order to extend thevalue of brand; establishing program innovation modes to reduce the costs of blindinnovation and achieve the goal of expansion.
