Status And Development Of China's "draft Class Of Reality Show" Program

"Talent Show" as a kind of reality shows, has the common characteristics of reality shows. However,"Talent Show" also has unique characteristics that other kinds of reality shows do not have."Talent Show" shares the common characteristics with other kinds of reality shows, such as reality and originality. There is no script or line prepared for participants before the show. Participants perform in the shows freely. Thus,"Talent Show", like other reality shows, reflects spontaneity and entertainment. Ordinary people are the most important elements in a "Talent Show". They show their own personalities in a "Talent Show". However, different with other reality shows, judges are also important roles in a "Talent Show"."Talent Show" is the most popular kind of reality show in China. In the year2004, a "Talent Show" called "Super Girl Singing Competition" was established by Hunan TV. Since then,"Talent Shows" have emerged in abundance. The year2006was also called "The Year of Talent Show", because in this year a large amount of talent shows emerged. In this year,"Super Girl" was written into "the2006Report on Development of China’s Radio, Film and Television". In the year2007three talent shows,"My hero","My Show" and "Dream China" were also written into the "Report on Development of China’s Radio, Film and Television". Therefore, the number of talent shows increased more dramatically. Till the year2012, talent shows emerged not only in China Central Television, but also emerged in almost every local television in different provinces of China.In the current situation, large amount of talent shows emerged in China. On one hand, it reflects a picture of prosperity and development. However, on the other hand, this situation exposes problems, such as homogeneity among shows. Chinese talent shows are still in the process of simulation and exploration.This study can be roughly divided into four parts. In the first part, Chinese talent shows are divided into four periods. The study describes the development tendency of Chinese talent shows, and different characteristics for talent shows in different periods. In the second part, the study does comparative study, based on the observation of Chinese talent shows and American talent shows. In this part, the study discovers the differences between Chinese talent shows and American talent shows, and discusses the reasons of the differences, In the third part, the study explores the audiences’ psychology and expectations by conducting a questionnaire survey. In the final part, the study concludes the trends and deficiencies of Chinese talent shows and provides suggestions for the development of Chinese talent shows.This study demonstrates its innovation in the description of the current development status and development tendency of Chinese talent shows. Besides, the study provides suggestions for the future development of Chinese talent shows, based on interview of audiences and comparative study on Chinese and foreign reality shows, In addition, the study explores the audiences’psychology and expectations, and gathers their opinions and suggestions for Chinese talent shows. Last but not least, this study makes up for the limitations of the existed study in research methods by combining quantitative and qualitative research methods.
