With the pace of urbanization in China continuing to stride, the traffic and motor vehicle of city show explosive growth, the traffic police department is confronted with unprecedented challenges because of a lot of management problems. Over the past decade, the construction traffic police department’s information is relatively mature, all kinds of operational systems have been perfect, consequently accumulating large amounts of business data. In the case of the expanding of amount of data of business systems, how to make full use of the existing information resources traffic polices have in order to provide decision-making services for traffic control is significant, meanwhile, data warehouse and its complementary technologies in traffic control will become a major actual research.Data warehouse technology is based on the needs of the business development of the information system and the development of the database system technology, gradually being a series of new independent applications. The online analytical processing which is the main application of the data warehouse system support complex analysis operations and focus on decision support, providing intuitive query results. The so-called time series prediction provides time series model with actual data structure having rule of change regulation, extrapolating to achieve the purpose of predicting future trends with the help of the model.This paper analyzes the application status of the current data warehouse system, after deeply understand the general design architecture of the data warehouse system, combined with requirements analysis the traffic management system, this paper propose a solution for such a system. The solution is that traffic management data warehouse can be constructed using technology of Oracle data warehouse and using online analytical processing technology and prediction algorithm based on time series to analyze and predic the statistics of traffic control. The system combines the main business of traffic management and construct the model of data warehouse and build a system architecture meeting the needs of the model(OLAP, three layer Client/Server), completing the design of data warehouse environment to provide support for traffic management assistant decision-making. This paper mainly explain about the design of data warehouse in traffic management system and design and analyze for every function module part in warehouse design. In this paper, to further illustrate the practicality and feasibility of the warehouse model, designed and implemented the traffic management system whose theme is " traffic accidents ". In the process of implementing the "traffic accidents" theme, in order to display multidimensional data in a two-dimensional screen, this paper use the latest IBM Cognos and related tools, implementing OLAP multidimensional analysis operation and also use the algorithm based on time series to predict related topics, implementing it by gretl technology. With the help of designing and implementing the theme, this paper verify the practicality of the system. At the last part of this paper, it summarize the research work and points out the future research direction.
