With the car's amount increasing continuously, the rate of road traffic accidents is growing correspondingly. And the analysis and reproduction of accident is more and more attended. But the traditional analysis of road traffic accidents are based on site plans, site photos and other related materials, lacking of a dynamic process of the accident display. Nowadays the three-dimensional computer simulation methods are used extensively at home and abroad. This paper studied the development of three-dimensional vehicle model for traffic accidents reconstruction, which could be used for Computer Aided Traffic Accident Analysis and Reproduction System (TACAR) and The Application of Traffic Accidents Reproduction Animation Demonstration (TAREC).It enhanced the visibility and the fidelity of accident reproduction animation simulation, and had great practical significance. This paper firstly used the large-scale modeling software 3DS MAX platform for creating a typical three-box car model based on Audi A6 model. Then simulated the right material to the vehicle model by studying the lighting and shading properties of material.Secondly, it developed the software secondly using the MAXScript language embeded in the software 3DS MAX. And studied the polygon reduction algorithm, optimized the vehicle model.Thenit added the lighting effect to the vehicle model in different driving environment(night or in rain and fog days, etc.),steering, braking and reversing conditions, based on the automobile lighting system.Futhermore,it researched vehicle collision characteristics, achieved the deformation effect of the various components after a positive impact, side impact and rear-end collision. At last, all modules were integrated on the 3DS MAX platform by using Script plug-in technology.
