The matchmaking program “If you are the one” got a high audience rating for itsnew program formats and rich content. From the feminist perspective, this program isdifferent from the previous program with stereotype of representing image of female. On thesurface, female in this program seemingly have the unprecedented initiative and the right tospeak in order to construct the self-image. But what is the real? What kind of female image isrepresented in this program? Whether it subvert the patriarchal conception of female mediaimage or not? Besides, how are the female audiences to construct the new meaning whenreceiving the text meaning of this program? The aim of this research is to have a analysis,illustration and show on the female image in this program in the level of the media text andaudience. On this basis, to check whether this program make the female have won anunprecedented liberation or they are still in the male’s hegemony.The text analysis part: firstly, the study sample is the program from July2010-April2011.Through the context analysis method, to discuss the profession and characteristics of femalein this program intuitively. The results show that:(1) the diversified andnon-stereotypical female occupations are showed.(2) Meeting the expectations of thetraditional concept of the image of women. Secondly, this article is to interpret the femaleimage of this show by the method of symbol text reading and discourse analysis. The symboltext reading refers to looking the show as a symbolic text andtaping the meaning of the symbol. The discourse analysis refers to analyze the discourse andrevealing the power relationship in the dialogue. The research found that female in this showobtain the right to construct the self-image in some degree, but they could notescape the impact of the traditional patriarchal concept on the female image. Still, the femaleimages in this show have no power subverting meaning.Audience analysis part: to interview30female audience of this show and combine theresults of text analysis for this article, in which using the hall’s encoding-decoding "mode.The research shows that the respondents are not unidirectional and passive acceptance toreceive the text meaning of this program. In the process of interpreting, the female audienceshave got the pleasure by reading strategy reconstruction and meaning remaking, which meanthey need to compromise, consult and struggle.Obviously, roughly answered the concerns of feminist media researchers: how to encode the gender discourse in the media text? How are the female audiences to illustrate the mediatext with social gender meaning? How did they participate in the construction of social gender?The expected aim of this article is achieved.
